Summer is here. If you are blessed with a balcony, it's time to transform it into additional living room. A few simple and budget - friendly ideas will help you create a blissful space. Plus, you'll have a colourful view from inside.
Plants and flowers
Adapt flowers and plants to the size of your balcony, sun and shade. Try to mix different plants: slow growing shrubs ( boxwood, Pinus mugo "grune welle" ), secculents, herbs ( lavender, basil, oregano ), climbers ( ivy ). My favorite summer flower is petunia ( it likes sun and a lot of water), but you can plant begonia, geranium. If your balcony is in shade try bizzie lizzie. Remember that pots dry out quickly, so you have to water your plants every day during hot summer (never water your plants during the day when the soil is hot, wait till evening). To prevent diseases and pests use organic pesticides. Don't forget to supply fertilizers - I prefer the long-lasting ones.Pots
Aesthetic pots ads a final touch to your plants. Before buying new pots, think if you can renovate your old ones. This year, I couldn't find satisfying balcony pots, so I decided to paint my old ones with spray paint.
Outdoor pillows
Outdoor pillows are the easiest and the cheapest way to refresh your balcony. Opt for the colourful or pattern ones. You don't need a mountain of pillows, one or two is enough. The visual effect will surprise you.
Lanterns and string lights
Lightening adds a lot to ambience of balcony. Try to hang string lights on the rail ( choose warm led light ), place lanterns on the floor or coffee table. Create your own lantern from old candles jars or cans.
